Shared Ownership Is

  • A great way to help you get on to the property ladder if you are unable to buy a home outright. It can often be an affordable alternative to renting or buying on the open market.
  • You buy a share in one of our brand new or resale properties with a mortgage and savings. In addition to this, you pay a subsidised monthly charge (rent) to Thames Valley Housing for the share you don’t own and a monthly service charge.
  • As your income increases you can buy further shares in the property which means you will pay less rent; this is called Staircasing. When you own your home outright you will no longer pay any rent although there may still be a service charge to pay.
  • Whenever you want to move home and sell your share we have a dedicated Resales team that can provide this service.
